Watch The Rice Grow

For a plant, rice grows really fast. However, sitting around wating rice grow is about as exciting as watching, well, grass grow. Also, it isn't very productine at work. If you want to watch it grow in realtime (sorta) you can check out some time lapse photography.

2005 Company Name Rice Germination Contest:

As many of you may know, we recently held a contest to see who could germinate the best rice for planting in the new Employee Garden. After weeks of hard work and speculation we finally held our judging. I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to this season's "Impartial Judges", Audrey and Ron.

After carefully examining all of the entries, the judges declared the winners. Of course, there are no real losers in this competition, so every grower received a consolation prize (Rice Crispy Treats, yummy!)

All of the rice over 3 cm will be planted (UPDATE: was planted) this Sunday in the Company Name Employee Garden.

Rice Planting (Phase 1):

On April 10 the Company Name Employee Garden was officially commissioned. Work began with the construction of the artificial rice paddy. Constructed from six plastic containers, the paddy is highly modular. The first step was to install the integrated irrigation system, then dirt mixing began in earnest.

Once the dirt was mixed divided into the individual containers, we began planting the rice.

If your rice was in the Phase 1 planting, you can check on your rice in one of the left three containers. Your rice letter (from the green masking tape) was marked on the side of the container in the approximate location of planting. Over the next few days we will be raising the water level.

Garden Planting Update:

The Company Name Employee Garden is now officially open for planting. Over the next few weeks, we are adding:

If you are interested in adding to our garden, fill out a form and you're in. Please note, generally speaking we prefer to maintain a working garden and thus favour plants with some tangible (and preferably edible) yield. We have some space for flowers, but it's fairly limited.

As the garden area is basically a concrete stockyard, all plants must be in containers (ie. pots, planters, etc.). We have some (but not much) budget for containers if they are small. Let me know your needs. Additionally, we have approximately 3 cubic feet of soil available on a first-come, first-served basis.

We look forward to your contribution!
